Gathering inspiration at the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow

Journey to the last stop on the Victoria line in Walthamstow and I promise you’re in for a treat at my new favourite gallery: the William Morris Gallery. It’s situated right on a busy main road but my god, is the building a beauty; I can just imagine how idyllic it was when it was first built, with no traffic disturbing the peace.

Each room is broken up into different stages of Morris’ life and describes in detail the crafts and work he produced. Prior to my visit I knew a tiny bit about William Morris and definitely knew his prints but now I know what a truly talented and inspirational man he was. My favourite fact was that he didn’t like the way the Victorians printed books, so he set up his own printing press – simple solution!

The building is beautiful and well looked after. His prints are on everything you see – including the carpet. Whilst you’re there be sure to stop off for a slice of cake and a cup of tea in the café whilst admiring the stunning gardens at the back of the house – a lovely place to sit in the summer.
